About
As a global provider of automation solutions to factory production and packaging areas, AutoCoding Systems has developed a suite of modular software products to facilitate processes such as device integration, data collection and reporting, code deployment and packaging verification. The consequences of printing the wrong date code on a product or selecting the wrong packaging can be far reaching. For instance, a major cause of food product withdrawals by the FDA is undeclared allergens as a result of inaccurate coding/labeling or wrong packaging. Incorrect declaration of food contents or allergens can lead to serious health consequences, not to mention the cost implications to the manufacturer and potential damage to the brand. By automating the set-up process of the packaging line equipment and carrying out automatic in-line packaging checks, the risk of costly errors is greatly reduced. At entry level, the web-based AutoCoding product can be used to set-up and control packaging line devices, such as coders, barcode scanners and inspection equipment, irrespective of brand. The centralized application automatically deploys secure set-up and message data to various pieces of equipment on the packaging line, removing the need for manual set-up. The business benefits offered by our packaging line solutions include increased speed and reliability of line set-up, reduced job changeover time, reduced risk of human error and the ability to manage packaging, coding and labeling complexities. Additional modules can be added to AutoCoding to give enhanced functionality, such as the Paperless Quality module for in-line and off-line routine quality checks, Inspection Reporting for monitoring the performance of checkweighers/metal detectors and automatic pallet labeling for the identification and labeling of pallets from different lines with information such as batch code, order reference and SSCC18 information.

  • AutoCoding Systems eliminates risk of coding & packaging errors at Greencore, Kiveton

PostedWednesday, July 20,2016 at 6:37 AM

When Greencore Prepared Meals wanted to reduce the risk of coding and packaging errors across their factories, AutoCoding Systems was their first port of call.

The site at Kiveton comprises a bakery, a ready meals factory and a soup and spreads factory. AutoCoding has been installed across most of the packaging lines, removing the human element of setting up the line devices and manually checking the packaging.

Each factory implementation brought its own challenges; manufacturing products for a number of different retailers with varying packaging designs and different coding formats. The risk of human error was, therefore, greatly increased when product changeovers took place.

Prior to the AutoCoding system being implemented, all the devices on the packaging lines were set up manually leaving us vulnerable to human error. The AutoCoding system has given us peace of mind; with over 300 different products and in excess of 200 label versions, we need to be 100% confident that the correct label is applied with the correct coding information.

We have AutoCoding installed on 6 lines in our Newbury and Chester factories. The AutoCoding system integrates seamlessly with our Unity ERP system and manages the date code which is then applied by our coders. With the addition of online scanning of our packaging film and labels, we can be sure that our date coding and packaging will be correct at all times. We are now extending the system to include Paperless Quality to reduce the amount of paperwork we generate as part of our quality processes.
